Phillip Tan - Lead Artist
I've been an aviation fanatic all my life. As a kid, I've been fascinated with things that fly. Most of the computer games I played as a kid were combat flight simulators... Falcon 3.0, F-16 MRF, IAF, etc. I was so crazy about fighter jets that I joined the Republic of Singapore Air Force as a Crew Chief. I worked on different variants of the Northrop F-5 in the RSAF and thoroughly enjoyed it. When Microsoft Flight Simulator 98 came out, I bought it and had a try at flying low and slow (relatively). Eventually I flew airliners more often than fighter jets.
By the time FS2002 came out, it drew me in more and more and in the end I tried my hand at painting addons for the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise. I joined a group called AI Aardvark and we were the leading freeware addon group for AI Traffic for Flight Sim addons. Some of our work have been published by JustFlight in a DVD - Ultimate Traffic 2. I took my interest in creating aircraft liveries and decided to create The Art of Flying to share my artwork experience with the world.
And in case you are curious... no, I'm not the famous Philip/Phillip Tan behind the Spawn/Ironman comics, nor am I the stunt co-ordinator for Inception/Pirates of the Caribbean/Transformer. Granted, the latter namesake was born in Singapore but he's already moved to the UK and is 14 years older. The former is younger, born in Manila and now lives in the US of A. I'm just Phillip Tan - the aviation fanatic from Singapore. My only claim to fame is that Justflight flightsim DVD mentioned above. :) Maybe THIS website will make me famous LOL...
